Reducing Multicast Collision Loss for Digital TV Over 802.11 Wireless Networks

چکیده
Digital Video Broadcasting over Terrestrial Networks (DVB-T) is an increasingly popular option for receiving TV in Europe, with computer hardware available to capture the MPEG-2 [2] compressed digital streams. 802.11 wireless networks are also becoming commonplace in the home, and so it is a logical extension to allow digital TV to be distributed over a wireless LAN. In such an environment, it is desirable to multicast a single TV channel to several receivers simultaneously in order to preserve bandwidth, and this paper shows that in multicast mode, collision loss (in the presence of cross-traffic) reduces quality considerably. In this context, an original protocol is presented, and simulated which is shown to considerably reduce collision loss allowing high-quality digital TV to be received. A Novel Multicast Tree Construction Algorithm for Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Many appealing multicast services such as on-demand TV, teleconference, online games and etc. can benefit from high available bandwidth in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks. When multiple simultaneous transmissions use a similar channel to transmit data packets, network performance degrades to a large extant. Designing a good multicast tree to route data packets could enhance the...
متن کاملAn experimental performance analysis of MAC multicast in 802.11b networks for VoIP traffic
In this paper, we present experimental studies on the use of MAC multicast in IEEE 802.11b wireless networks. Our experiments show that the maximal throughput achievable in such networks is 1.76 Mbps for an 802.11 Data Rate of 2 Mbps. We study the behavior of VoIP traffic over MAC multicast in such networks in multi-hop scenarios with and without hidden stations. The maximal number of hops for ...
متن کاملImpact of device unavailability on the reliability of multicast transport in IEEE 802.11 networks
Multicast transport is an efficient solution to deliver the same content simultaneously to many receivers. This transport mode is mainly used these days to deliver real-time video streams. However, multicast transmissions support over IEEE 802.11 networks does not provide any feedback policies, which implies a definite loss of missing packets. This impacts the reliability of the multicast trans...

Nowadays wireless networks are becoming important in personal and public communication andgrowing very rapidly. Similarly, Software Dened Network (SDN) is an emerging approach to over-come challenges of traditional networks. In this paper, a new SDN-based framework is proposedto ne-grained control of 802.11 Wireless LANs. This work describes the benets of programmableAcc...
متن کاملA collision detection method for multicast transmissions in CSMA/CA networks
Compared to unicast traffic, multicast is not protected by any ARQ mechanism in 802.11 networks: collisions with other multicast and unicast transmissions are not detected and senders will not adapt to the contention situation by backing off. This results in an unreliable service for multicast transmissions. We propose early multicast collision detection (EMCD), an algorithm with the purpose of...
